Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival Bagdogra followed by a drive to Phuentsholing

You will be met with assistance upon arrival at the airport followed by a drive to the Gateway of Bhutan, Phuentsholing The drive will be for a duration of four hours (170kms). It will take you through West Bengal, across the lush countryside and tea gardens. , the last Indian border and thus enter Bhutan. Upon arrival check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02: Drive from Phuentsholing to Thimphu (2500m)

We will depart for Thimphu, the Capital of Bhutan which is six hours or 185 kms away. An en route visit to the famous Kharbandi Gonpa, for a birds eye view of the plains of India. The ride will take us through quaint towns of Gedu, Chukha, Chapsa and Chunzom. After the check in to the hotel, one is free to explore the town on own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Sightseeing in Thimphu

Thimphu is a small bustling town established in the 1960s. In the capital, you will notice a unique touch of traditional architecture. Changangkha Lhakhang which is a Temple built in 15th century, is now the School of Arts & Crafts. One can visit that in the morning along with the Folk Heritage Museum. The Memorial Chorten, built in the memory of the Late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck is also worth a visit. A trip to the BBS tower (Buddha Point) for a scenic view of the town and one might catch a glimpse of the National Animal of Bhutan, Takin.

In the evening, we will visit the Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the Central Government where both the temporal and spiritual heads of the country preside. The Dzong was rebuilt in the 1960s on the ruins of an earlier structure. As you stroll through the town, you might witness a game of archery in progress at the Changlimithang compound. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 04: Drive from Thimphu to Paro (55 kms 01 hour 2300m)

Paro is a picturesque valley with quaint clusters of hamlets amid terraced paddy fields. Although the site of the nation’s first airport, Paro still retains tradition through its architecture and the simple way of life. In the afternoon is a visit to the National Museum and Rinpung Dzong, after which one is free to explore the town. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 05: Sightseeing in Paro

After breakfast, a drive to the valley to the Drukgyal Dzong or the Fort of Drukpa victory. The Dzong, although gutted by fire and in ruins now, still attracts visitors. It was used to repel Tibetan invasion throughout the course of early Bhutanese history. Looming above the smoldered ruins is the snowcapped peak of the Chomolhari. A hike uphill to Taktsang will bring you to the famous site where Guru Padmasambhava alighted upon the back of a tigress.  On the way back one can also visit the Kitchu Monastery. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 06: Paro – Onward Destination

After a wonderful stay in Bhutan, you be will assisted to the Paro airport towards your destinations.
